Weapon of mass destruction, marvel of engineering, pivotal scientific achievement, the V2 sits as so many great advances in human technology do at a confluence of human strands, some noble, some terrible and ushered in a future marked similarly by wonder and fear. This painting was another more academic exercise in the accurate rendering of the subject in a setting that is at once believable and full of suggested meaning. A companion piece is planned based on the recollections of a friend of Joe's who, as a child, found themselves close to a V2 impact in the last year of the Second World War.

The foundation of Joe's work. In painting, Joe discovered the possibilities for visual communication and the greatest historical inspiration. His canvasses are largely earlier works, though he will return from time to time to paint on panels or found surfaces.
